I’m Nicole, owner of RubyRuby.

I must admit, I have a weakness for beautiful hair.

I wasn’t always a hairdresser;

I studied communications and worked as a journalist before coming to Canada.

When I arrived in Montreal, I decided to change things up.

Like any black woman arriving in a new country, I was worried about, well… my hair!

I remember, three months later, I had the same weave as when I arrived, which was crazy because I usually do my hair every month. I was so afraid of not finding anyone to do a good weave for me here, and my worst fears were confirmed… I ended up going from salon to salon to find something decent, and I was always disappointed—too tight a weave, too bulky a weave, weaves that fall apart after two weeks, hairdressers who don’t listen to the needs of their customers or who can’t advise them on their natural hair… ugh, I’d seen it all. And guess what… it was all about the money…

That’s when I decided I’d had enough; it was time to bring something new to the city.

My passion for hair sent me south of the border, where I took classes related

not only to my own hair type but to all types of hair as well.

When I started RubyRuby, I wanted to prove it was possible to have extensions that look natural without breaking the bank. And believe me, it was not about the money (I’m as cheap as the next one!), but about the end result, because I love creating.

The smile on my customers’ faces and their appreciation is my greatest reward.

I have no problem saying no to a customer who wants a technique that will harm her hair.

But

my job doesn’t end with a beautiful install. I also give tips and advice to customers on how to care for their own hair.

I feel blessed to wake up every day doing something I truly enjoy and that brings incredible value to my customers.
